Open Letter to Town Council Regarding GHG Emissions Target

The Town of Collingwood is about to adopt a woefully inadequate greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction target at their council meeting tomorrow September 20, 2022. Where other neighbouring municipalities are setting ambitious targets, the Town is planning to set a weak target of reducing GHG emissions by 20% below 2019 levels by 2030.

This target will not result in the immediate and meaningful climate action we need to cut our emissions, increase our energy efficiency, switch to renewable energy, and adapt to climate change for a more resilient and healthy community. CCAT’s Dave Orhling presented remarks to the committee September 6th but we need more voices to be heard by all of the Council.
Join us Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at 5:00pm at the Council Chambers (97 Hurontario St.) or by videoconference to make it known the recommended minimum target is not good enough.
Please bring your neigbours, children, high school students and others.  It’s their future too!
